Check out the West Wall and enjoy the just installed art featuring photographs by Frank Zgonc. His last show here included a number of pieces created in his watercolor photography format. Now he has ventured into creating photographs in the “Orton” style. Depending on your proximity to the picture, you see an image either slightly out of focus, or exceptionally sharp. It involves a layering process of two separately shot images. This show will run for about seven weeks with an Artist Reception set for this Saturday, May 23, from 5:30 to 8:30pm.
The Monrovia Kiwanis Club has organized a Santa Barbara Wine Country Day Tour on Saturday May 30. The cost is $85.00 per person – that includes transportation from Monrovia to the Santa Ynez Valley and back on a luxury motor coach, a light breakfast, lunch and tasting room fees at three wineries. Space is limited to 100 people. For reservations or additional information, please call/email Ryan Garcia at (626) 340-3782 ryan@cibare.com or Les Peterson at (626) 358-8988 les_peter@verizon.net
We still want to offer Wine Classes, both Basic Wine 101, as well as some classes on selected in depth subjects. Response to this query has produced seven guests interested in Wine 101 classes on a Saturday afternoon and three for Wednesday evening. There was also one person who wanted a more in depth subject specific class. If there are others interested, please email me with your class level and preferred day (Wednesday at 7PM or Saturday about 4PM). We need eight for a class and classes cost $30. Find eight people, including yourself, and your class is free.
Stop by Sunday afternoons when we’re joined by Norman Davis who will play classical and light jazz pieces for a couple hours. His guitar playing provides a relaxing back drop to the whole wine and cheese experience. The music starts at 3:30PM.
The Cheese Corner
We received a shipment of Weinkäse from Germany (by way of Austria) this morning. Literally translated Weinkäse means “wine cheese”. It was given this name because it was invented early in the 20th century by German cheese makers as an accompaniment to the fruity wines of the Moselle and Rhine Rivers. This cheese will pair wonderfully with a dry Riesling, Gewürtztraminer or any other light and fruity “summer” white. Einfach wunderbar!
Upcoming Events:
On May 29 we will be joined by Winemaker Amy Butler of Edward Sellers Winery. Amy will be pouring a line up of their Paso Robles wines including 2007 Viognier, 2006 Grenache, 2006 Vertigo, 2006 Cuvée des Cinq and 2006 Syrah Sélectionne.
